Crop Walk 2009

News…

The Exeter Area Crop Hunger Walk took place on Sunday, October 25th, 2009. The event went extremely well. As soon as we get some results and some pictures of the event, we’ll post them here. CROP Walk is an ecumencal group and everyone is welcome to join us.

Here are some pictures from Crop Walk 2008. Don’t these folks look like they’re having fun? A beautiful day and a beautiful cause…

...on a really happy day!

...on a really happy day!

In 2009, please plan to attend the 2009 Crop Walk on Sunday October 25, sponsored by the Exeter Area Interfaith Coalition. We’ve asked Our Lord for good weather, and we ask you to come join us. Monies raised through pledges help stock the St. Vincent de Paul Food Pantry and assist many other worthy charitable causes here in our area. Last year’s Crop Walk was a huge success and we hope for the same this year. More details are being worked out so as time draws near, mark your calendars, get involved, do something for the greater good! Thanks.

Monthly Board Meetings:

All SVdP Members/Volunteers are welcome to join us if you can for our regular monthly Board meetings, normally held the second Wednesday of each month from 7PM to 8-8:30PM at the Michael House, 11 Linden Street, Exeter NH. We’re looking for your ideas and thoughts to guide us through. Although these are classified as “Board” meetings, anyone who is an SVdP Member can attend and, of course, contribute. We’ll try to post any changes in the scheduled time and/or place for these meetings right here. So check back often.

Churchill’s – Plant Sale – A Winner!

Churchill’s Garden Center of Exeter once again came up with a wonderful suggestion accompanied by a very generous donation for the spring of 2009. The Center’s owners offered us spring type plants, flowers and vegetables to sell with the bonus of splitting the proceeds. Just like the fall sale, this event came together quickly in May 2009. We quickly put together a large tent, a work crew, an “expert sales force” and other site preparations and sold Churchill’s flowers, flats, and hanging baskets after each of the weekend Masses.

This was truly a remarkable success. Our parishioners and customers all remarked at how beautiful the plants looked and how attractive the pricing was. The plants were so popular we had to make extra trips back to Churchill’s to pick up more stock. The total raised by the Plant Sale was almost $700 which will go a long way toward keeping the pantry shelves full during the next few months. We’re looking forward to doing this again, perhaps in the Spring of 2010 when we might be able to offer miscellaneous garden offerings as we did last year. Once again, as they so often have done, Churchill’s came through with a terrific idea and a most kind offer of products for us to do some fundraising with. Thank you Dave and Lisa of Churchill’s!
